The Forgotten Light

Of all the Greek islands, Santorini is the most picturesque and the most enigmatic. On tall cliffs that curve around a huge bay, little white houses and churches with bright blue domes are scattered in loose handfuls. They look especially beautiful at sunset, when the sky blazes with every possible shade of red. Santorini's sunsets are considered among the most magnificent in the world. And the most photogenic spot on the island is the old village of Oia. I usually get up long before dawn, to catch a few frames before they switch off the night lighting. And do you know when they turn off the lamps in Oia? No? I know exactly - at 6:20... Click, and the lights are gone. If only they'd switch them off around seven... I'd have taken so many great shots. Just imagine: the little lamps and the rising sun. But 6:20 is 6:20... So I wander off to photograph the little houses. Until, completely by chance, I find this little window. The last one, where for some reason they "forgot" to turn off the light... They must have known I was coming...
